I was looking for a professional level product to create digital audio files in WAVE or MP3 format either.The ZOOM H4 seems to be very good ballance that has XLR connectors and works with either Mac or PC.
The unit casing is a bit cheap, but works fine flimsey. Another common theme is that you can use to convert any USB Microphones analog to a digital source.
It would be much better if allowed all four channels for use for wired outside sources, how it will record four channels, but only two can be connected the other two are from the built in stereo microphone. This a little unclear when one reads the promotional material that sounds almost like a full featured 4-track recorder will not.
